Deuteronomy 6:6-7 NIV
These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.

Miss this week's message?
Our culture seems to have gotten so confused about the nature and purpose of the family, but family is the very fabric of civilization. That's why we need to know and walk in God's intention for family. This week, Pastor Dennis addresses this key issue in an insightful, engaging and enlightening message, called The Purpose of the Family, the fourth in our current series, WE: Unleashing the Power of Family.

We love to rejoice over testimonies about what God has done in people's lives, and we often use such testimonies in publications, sermons, on the website, etc. We want to hear about what God has done for you, so please type up your testimony and submit it here!

V•Groups -- a place to belong
In the high-tech, low-touch culture of America, many of us are searching for a place to belong. We wrestle with issues of life such as relationships, money, self-discipline, insecurity and fear in our search for peace and significance.

We weren't meant to walk through life alone. True growth--both spiritual & personal--often takes place in loving, supportive, grace-giving, truth-telling relationships -- like those found in V•Groups.

V•Groups are small groups of 10-12 people who meet weekly across Metro Atlanta. They are places for people just like you, who are seeking answers, change, real relationships -- and above all, God.

WE: The Purpose of the Family

We are created in the image of God; intended to reflect God in the earth. Family is God's idea of how to reflect His image, His idea of relationship, in the earth. He wants us to work together as a team - to work as a "we" rather than just a "me." He is calling us back to His original purpose for the family. That purpose includes four areas of focus:

  1. The family is to be a shelter from the storms of life. Everyone experiences storms, especially in the areas of failure, change, unexpected events and rejection. Family should be there to help shelter us in the midst of them.
  2. The family is to be a learning center for life. Our goal is to establish and then move children from parental control to self control and then ultimately to God control. Families are intended to train children in godly relationships, character and values.
  3. A family is a place to enjoy life together. HAVE FUN TOGETHER!!! Life needs to be full of fun. Don't be boring. There's too much at stake in your kid's lives to let them tune you out just because you're boring.
  4. A family is to be a launching pad for ministry. Parents have the opportunity, and indeed, the commission to mold and shape their children to prepare them for God's purpose for their lives. That means getting the foolishness out of them and training them in the ways of the Lord.

Let me encourage you to take advantage of the many family resources we have available here at Victory, if you haven't done so already; listen to or watch this week's message (and previous messages in our current series, WE: Unleashing the Power of Family), going through the Ancient Paths seminar or taking some of our Victory Family University parenting courses.

God has a definite plan and purpose for the family. If we want to put a stop to the devil's plans and the prevailing trends toward the destruction of our culture, we need to know and pursue God's purposes in our families. As we do so, one by one, family by family, we can make a tremendous difference in our world.

Points4Prayer
  • Pray for President and Mrs. Bush and their White House staff as they continue to host thousands of guests at dozens of gatherings for holiday celebrations of all kinds. ; Pray for God's presence and blessing on each one, that God will be honored and glorified in these events.
  • Give thanks for the diligence and dedication shown by President Elect Obama and members of his team as they continue to work hard on remaining transition concerns, cabinet appointments and the practical realities of forming a new administration. Pray for God's guidance, for insight and clarity, and for creativity in dealing with each issue and appointment. Pray also that every step taken and every appointment and hire will be done with honesty and integrity, that God's wisdom and values will be honored in the coming administration.
  • As the economic climate in America continues to worsen, pray for God's grace and help throughout this season--for those hard hit to be helped by those less impacted, for helping agencies to meet the needs of those most challenged and for all Americans to reach out and help those in need during this Christmas season and throughout the year. Pray for those who live on the margins of society to receive love, blessing and provision this Christmas.
  • The Christmas season is in full swing, and the sacrifices of those who serve our country through military service are heightened. Pray for strength and comfort for these faithful and dedicated servants, that they will be encouraged and blessed as they step up to defend our freedoms around the world. Pray for children who miss their mother or father to be blessed by others who are in a position to encourage and love them during this season pray for parents and others who long to see their son or daughter to be comforted by God and by the knowledge that their sacrifice is appreciated by grateful citizens.
  • Pray for a joyful, peaceful and safe holiday season, especially for those who will be travelling in potentially dangerous weather conditions to visit with family and friends.
