Weekly Scripture

Galatians 3:13-14 (NIV)
Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: "Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree." He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.

Miss this week's message?
Did you know we can create an environment in our homes that will cause God's blessings to be passed on to a thousand generations of our family? It's true! Unfortunately, most of us were raised with a lot more cursing than blessing. It's time to change that. We can stop that cycle and start passing blessings on to our children, their children, and so on. If you want to know how, then you'll want to hear this insightful message from Pastor Colleen, second in the "We" family series.

V•Groups -- a place to belong
In the high-tech, low-touch culture of America, many of us are searching for a place to belong. We wrestle with issues of life such as relationships, money, self-discipline, insecurity and fear in our search for peace and significance.

We weren't meant to walk through life alone. True growth--both spiritual & personal--often takes place in loving, supportive, grace-giving, truth-telling relationships -- like those found in V•Groups.

V•Groups are small groups of 10-12 people who meet weekly across Metro Atlanta. They are places for people just like you, who are seeking answers, change, real relationships -- and above all, God.

WE: Releasing the Blessing

Last week, I talked about Breaking Generational Curses. This week, for the second message in "WE," Unleashing the Power of Family, my wife Colleen talked about the next and more exciting step: Releasing the Blessing. She brought a message that was full of power, life, encouragement and hope. Here's a little bit of what she said:

Home is the most important place on earth. Yet, our experience tells us that it's not always the best place. It's certainly not always the place that teenagers want to run to. But home is supposed to be a place where you receive attention, blessing, love, affection and value; a safe haven. That kind of a home doesn't just happen by chance. There are things we need to do in order to create it.

For most of us, our parents gave us the best they had, but too often what they had was a lot of cursing. However, we live in a generation that has access to a lot more understanding and wisdom about generational curses and blessings. We are a transitional generation. We can be a catalyst for change. We can stop passing on the curses and start passing down the blessings - blessings that will last a thousand generations.

It's never too late to start creating a "Blessing Zone" in our homes. Here's what this kind of household looks like:

  1. The family is committed to honoring the Lord Jesus as the center of the home.
  2. Each family member is accepted and honored for who they are uniquely created to be.
  3. The climate of the home is positive, void of negative undercurrents and overall, the state of the home is non-judgmental.
  4. Guards are established, preventing toxic communication in the home; harsh and unjust words are avoided.
  5. Communication is done with regard to that which is honoring, live-giving and acceptable in God's sight.
  6. Members of the family genuinely care for one another and demonstrate their affection on a daily basis.

There's a tremendous amount of power and blessing in this teaching. Make sure you listen to or watch the whole message if you want to learn how to release generational blessings into your family line for generations to come. Also, if you haven't already done so, let me encourage you to take advantage of the Ancient Paths Classes that we offer regularly throughout the year. It covers all this and more in depth, going through the process of breaking generational curses and releasing generational blessings. Let's stop the destructive power of the enemy in our families and in our culture. Start releasing the blessing!

Points4Prayer
  • Pray for President Bush as on December 5 he speaks to the opening session of the Saban Center for Middle East Policy Forum in Washington, D.C. This event, held during the annual meeting of U.S. policymakers and Israeli officials, seeks dialogue on issues facing the two countries and the larger Middle East region.
  • Pray for Secretary of State Rice, in India today, seeking to show US support for that nation as it recovers from last week's terrorist attack in Mumbai. Also pray for those investigating the attack, asking God to bring the most accurate information to those seeking to bring justice to this tragic situation. And, pray for all who lost loved ones in the attack, asking God to bring comfort and grace to each one.

  • Give thanks for the great healing and help that has been provided for millions of Africans via the President's Emergency Plan for Aids Relief, also known as PEPFAR. The goal of supporting treatment for two million persons has been met and exceeded and the goal of supporting care for more than 10 million persons who are HIV infected has been met as well, with over 237,000 babies born HIV-free, thanks to the support of the American people. Praise God for progress in the defeat of this disease.
  • Pray for the newly appointed members of President Elect Barack Obama's cabinet, including Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State, Robert Gates as Secretary of Defense, Janet Napolitano as Secretary of Homeland Security, James Jones as National Security Advisor, Susan Rice as Ambassador to the United Nations and Bill Richardson as Secretary of Commerce. Pray for each of these persons as they make plans, hire staff and determine goals for the first 100 days of the new administration.
  • Pray also for President Elect Obama and his advisors as they continue to consider selections for remaining cabinet positions, including Secretaries of Agriculture, Education, Interior, Labor, EPA Director and more. Pray for godly wisdom guidance by God, that His will is done in the assembling of this cabinet.
  • As the holiday season swings into full gear, pray for the faithful men and women of our military who sacrifice to serve our country and safeguard our freedoms. Pray for their families as they also sacrifice, doing without their loved one during these special days. Pray for strength and hope for mothers and fathers, children, brothers and sisters and all with a loved one in military service.
  • Pray that the strongholds of greed, wherever they lie in our nation, will be removed, and be replaced by repentance and a desire to serve the common good in America.
