Talking Turkey About Thanksgiving
It's interesting to see how Thanksgiving has evolved over the years. It's gone from a 17th century exercise in piety and repentance to a national food fest and annual football rite. While it's fun to prepare a big harvest feast and share it with friends and family, I think it would be nice to dial back to the roots of the holiday. I don't mean we should turn into puritans, but it wouldn't be a bad thing to use the day to give something back to a world that gives so much to us.

Containing My Rage
I never was much for housework. Don't get me wrong: I have to be bone-tired to leave dirty dishes in the sink, I vacuum before the dust bunnies roll into tumbleweeds and yes, I even do toilets. But amid the chaos of family life, a post-layoff career switch and the loss of that ultimate luxury, the occasional professional scrubbing, I've learned to live with what I view as a few neatly piled mounds on the floor of mommy and daddy's bedroom.

Is Seventh Generation the Best Company on the Planet?
We think so. But then again we might be a little biased. What really counts is what other people think, and a new contest is giving you a chance to voice your opinion. We've been nominated for the Greenwala "What's Your Story Award", a contest aimed at finding the "most amazing eco-friendly, environmentally-conscious companies, products and services on the planet." If you think we're number one, cast your vote for your favorite environmental products company.

You Are What You First Ate
My wife and I entered parenthood as rank amateurs. But one thing we did right early on was decide we weren't going to dumb things down for our daughter. Whenever possible, we would encourage her to move beyond common expectation by engaging her in honest conversations about real things, reading her challenging books, and feeding her the same real food we ate. The last thing was one of the smartest moves we ever made.

Owning Up to Responsibility
When a corporation gets it wrong and bad things happen, we've come to expect a fairly standard response. Blame is aggressively laid elsewhere. Innocence is strongly proclaimed, and not much changes. At best we get a fix without any admission of wrongdoing, and business as usual is free to continue. So it was refreshing to see the new president of Toyota offer a whole series of mea culpas in a recent speech at the Japan National Press Club.

Environmentalism's Dirty Secret
It's easy to think of pollution as a problem we all share. Bad air, dirty water, chemical contamination, and other challenges spread themselves out roughly equally. Or so we think. The truth is more complicated: Some places are more polluted than others, and the worst conditions tend to be in poor and minority communities. For too long, this has been environmentalism's dirty secret.

Q: While Seventh Generation organic tampons are "green" friendly, do they pose any more benefits or less risks than using regular "not so green" tampon brands?
A: Our certified organic tampons have environmental benefits such as being processed chlorine free and using certified organic cotton. Choosing a certified organic, processed chlorine free tampon reduces the amount of chlorinated toxins released into the environment and can help make the world a healthier place for your family and generations to come.
